Laureen Summers is a woman with cerebral palsy who has been active in issues of disability advocacy and education since the 1970’s. She has worked at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) since 1992. She is a Project Director of the AAAS Entry Point! Program, which recruits, screens, and refers undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities to industry and university research programs for consideration of summer internship placement. She is also writing about the intersection of science and disability, trying to find new ways of presenting information about the importance of including disability in discussions of diversity and inclusion. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother who likes venturing into the unknown. Her first chapbook of poetry “Contender of Chaos” was published, by Finishing Line Press, in 2020.
